Who can help me pick a new plan for free?

Two free sources exist and neither sells anything: your State Health Insurance Assistance Program, which gives one-on-one counseling from a trusted, unbiased source, and 1-800-MEDICARE, which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except some federal holidays.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

SHIPs provide free one-on-one counseling and assistance from a trusted, unbiased source. Find your state's program at shiphelp.org, or call 1-877-839-2675.

1-800-MEDICARE

Medicare's own helpline, 1-800-633-4227, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except some federal holidays. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.

What to have in front of you

  • Your Medicare card.
  • Any notice you received from your plan.
  • Your prescriptions and your doctors.
